OCR issues
Fix poor receipt photos so the automatic reading can pick up the store and amount.
Get more receipts to read cleanly so fewer shoppers get stuck. Photo-reading problems almost always start with the photo, not the reward rules. When the automatic reading of receipt text (called OCR) cannot make out the store name, the amount, or other key fields, the receipt is more likely to come back incomplete, invalid, or hard to approve.
Symptom
Many receipts come back incomplete or invalid, even though shoppers are uploading real receipts.
The photo guidance shoppers already get
The challenge already asks shoppers for a photo that is:
- clear
- sharp
- centered on the receipt
- showing the store name and amount
Repeat the same guidance in your campaign copy and your staff training.
Likely causes
When the reading keeps failing
- Test the challenge with several real receipt formats, not only one perfect sample.
- Simplify the photo instructions shoppers see.
- Switch to manual review when receipts vary a lot and the reward value justifies it.
- Check whether the reading is set to be stricter than your campaign actually needs.
Only incomplete receipts are meant to be re-uploaded by the shopper. When the problem keeps happening, don't make shoppers keep guessing. Improve the photo instructions or review the receipt by hand.
